Avalanche action – team-building event
Experience the Thrill of the Avalanche Rescue Simulation
The Avalanche Action is an outdoor winter event designed to combine adventure with education. Taking place in the Podhale region, this unique team-building experience simulates a mountain rescue operation in the Tatra Mountains. Participants set off on a scenic winter trek when suddenly an “unexpected avalanche” accident unfolds.
How the Avalanche Rescue Simulation Unfolds
-
Preparation and Equipment Training
The event kicks off at the designated meeting point, where each participant receives essential rescue equipment for the upcoming mission. Here, TOPR rescuers (Tatra Volunteer Rescue Service) explain the basics of avalanche safety and provide a quick, hands-on tutorial on using rescue tools like avalanche transceivers, probes, and route markers.
-
Locating the Avalanche Site
Equipped and briefed, the team navigates to the “avalanche site” using provided directions, maps, and indicators. Following the instructions, participants move as a team toward the simulated accident zone.
-
Organizing the Rescue Operation
Once on-site, participants must work together to coordinate an effective rescue. The group appoints an action manager and divides into sub-teams (such as probing units, trackers, and observers) to carry out a thorough search for the snow-covered “victims.”
-
Rescue and First Aid
After locating the simulated victims—represented by backpacks with avalanche transceivers or phantoms—participants administer first aid and transport them to safety. This stage emphasizes the importance of teamwork and emergency response skills.
-
Debrief and Learning Experience
Once the rescue operation concludes, TOPR rescuers lead a debriefing session, discussing the team’s actions, offering insights, and providing feedback.
Educational and Team-Building Benefits
The Avalanche Action is more than just an adventure; it’s a valuable learning experience. Participants gain practical skills in winter safety and rescue operations while familiarizing themselves with essential equipment for safe winter tourism. By engaging in this immersive simulation, every team member leaves with a greater understanding of avalanche rescue techniques, making it both an exhilarating and enlightening event.
Important comments about the event:
– The group participating in the event should be dressed in tourist and sports clothing, adapted to the winter conditions.
